Irresponsible developer
New Straits Times 08/05/2006
I WAS more than happy to hear in November that I could collect the keys to
my condominium in Damansara after a 14-month delay.
Before the vacant possession of the unit could be given, I was requested to
agree to a compensation sum for the delay.
Once I agreed to accept the compensation sum, the developer would issue me a
release letter to inspect and collect the keys from its site office.
Then, the customer service personnel set an appointment for me with its site
office to inspect the unit for defects.
I was more than disappointed to see that the unit was far from ready. There
were more than 50 major defects. Even the two parking lots allotted to my
unit were not ready.
In December, I sent a 20-page letter listing major defects to the developer.
I was assured that the repairs would be finished in a month.
Again, I was disappointed when I was told at the end of January that repair
works on my unit had not started. Again, I was assured that the repair works
would be over in a month.
Finally, the repairs were completed in mid-April.
I submitted a letter to the developer in February requesting further
compensation. There was nothing I could do with the unit for five months
(November to April).
Neither could I move in nor rent the unit out. I was losing out, paying the
maintenance fee, and loan repayment. The developer has not responded to this
letter.
