KUALA LUMPUR: Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting
said 93% of the 15,698 cases registered from Dec 1, 2002, to Dec 31,2005, at
the House buyers Claims Tribunal have been tried and awarded.
He said there were 1,542 cases involving 226 developers which did not comply
with the tribunal's orders to pay compensation.
"I would like to reiterate here that this is a criminal offence under the
Housing Development (control and licences) Act 1966," Ong said.
He also said the tribunal is looking at increasing the compensation limit
from RM25,000 to RM50,000 citing cases in which house buyers lost as much as
RM65,000.
He said the amendment draft is almost ready and would be presented to the
cabinet by the end of the year. |
