Learn from previous cases
15/02/2006 New Straits Times-Letters
I HAD always thought that people learn from mistakes but preferably from the
mistakes of others. But Malaysian housebuyers are unable to learn from the
past cases of abandoned projects where innocent people bought houses based
on verbal promises of developers and signed sales and purchase agreements
that are generally in favour of the developers with negligible protection
for the buyers.
The remedy is simple: People should stop buying properties that are yet to
be completed. Developers would then be forced to ensure completion before
selling them and the problem would be solved.
Malaysians should stop depending on the Government, the legal/technical
professionals and the honesty of the property developers to protect them.
They should protect themselves instead of expecting others to protect them.
