FOR the past 20 years, apartment residents of Taman Kilangin at Jalan Sungai,
Penang, have been hoping for a recreational area to exercise and relax.
Their wish were granted recently when Komtar assemblyman Lim Gim Soon,
through the annual allocation from the Northeast district office, built them
a small recreational area complete with exercising facilities at the ground
floor of their apartment block.
Lim said the RM20,000 recreational area was the second of its kind in his
constituency.
“I always wanted to promote healthy lifestyle among the city people stay-
ing in my constituency,” he said when launching the Taman Kilangan
recreational area in Penang recently.
Lim said reports from Health Department showed that other than heart attack
and cancer, the third biggest ‘killer’ of big city residents was
psychological problems.
“Many people in the big cities are having mental illness because of stress
and pressure.
“That is why I am encouraging people to exercise regularly and relax after
work,” he added.
Taman Kilangin residents association chairman Koay Beng Hong said residents
were happy to get a beautiful recreational area in their place.
“Instead of having to travel far, we can now exercise at home,” he said.
