Proposal for faster strata
titles
The Star 05/12/2006
DELAY in the issuance of strata titles to unit owners of high-rise buildings
is akin to a “time bomb waiting to explode.”
Opposition Leader Phee Boon Poh (DAP – Sungai Puyu) told the State Assembly
that the problem was very serious.
He suggested that the state come up with a plan to address the issue.
He said in many cases strata titles were not issued because of technical
problems and because the developers had not applied for them.
“There are also issues such as conversion of land titles and amalgamation of
lots,” he said.
Phee proposed that the state set up a task force headed by assemblymen to go
down to the ground and look into the problems in their respective
constituencies.
“They can identify the buildings without strata titles and compile a report
to be submitted to the Land Office,” he added.
Before local councils approve building plans for high-rise buildings they
should first check with the Land Office to ensure that the title deeds are
in order, Phee said.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rashid Abdullah said 234 posts at the
District and Land Offices would be filled up as part of the state’s effort
to ensure that the Strata Title Board could function more effectively.
Datuk Dr Toh Kin Woon (BN – Machang Bubok) said lack of participation by
parents in their children’s education was identified as one of the main
reasons for the students’ poor performance in examinations.
He said the school Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) should play its role by
appealing to parents to be more involved in their children’s education as
well as their other activities in school” he said.
