CRACKS have appeared on a road of a
newly completed housing scheme at a hilly area in Batu Gajah during a recent
downpour.
The cracks have caused residents of Taman Indah Phase One, whose homes
are about 5m away from the foot of the hill, to have sleepless nights.
Lahat assemblyman Datuk Lee Kon Yin said the residents were worried that
the cracks that occurred at Taman Indah Phase Two would lead to other
problems such as erosion and landslip and affect Phase One.
“If this happens, they are worried that soil from the hill will bury
their homes located at the foothill.

“The soil will also get washed into the nearby Sungai Batu, causing it to
be silted and later create a flood problem,” he said when visiting the
housing project on Thursday.
Also present were Kinta Barat district councillors Lee Kim Choy and Wong
Yoon Heng.
Lee said he would ask the district council to get the developer of the
housing project to carry out slope strengthening works.
“This will prevent future cracks from occurring at the site,” he said.
Lee said he would also recommend to the council not to issue a
certificate of fitness for the housing scheme until the developer ensures
the slope was stable and safe.
“The council should also work with other relevant authorities to ensure
that the housing scheme is safe for occupation,” he said.
Lee said the developer had planned to build 36 double-storey homes priced
at RM130,000 onwards, adding that so far only five of the seven units
completed had been taken up.
