Landowners: Pay up rest of
compensation
14/11/2006 The Star
EIGHTY disgruntled landowners in Kota Baru, Kelantan, are demanding a
housing developer pay up the remaining 25% of their compensation for
acquiring their property for a project.
The landowners in Wakaf Che Yeh staged a peaceful pro-test on Saturday in
front of the Kota Baru Municipal Council demanding the payment.
After a brief gathering, they submitted a memorandum to the council.
The council and the developer are undertaking a joint-venture to build a
wholesale market in Wakaf Che Yeh and a three-storey commercial block.
According to the memorandum, the landowners, who claimed that the developer
had in August promised to settle the compensation, are complaining that the
developer and the council had deducted 25% from the original compensation
when the payments were made.
A spokesman for the land-owners, Rozlan Mohamad, 48, said the deduction was
not clearly explained to them.
A council spokesman, when contacted, said the council would investigate the
land-owners' claim. |
