THE issue with water rates for
condominiums remained unsolved with Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas)
ignoring repeated reminders by the Condominium, Apartment and High-Rise
Committee (CAHC) to arrange for a forum and meeting.
CAHC pro tem chairman Tengku Nazaruddin Zainuddin said the group
representing 32 condominiums had wanted to send several representatives to
meet with Syabas but there had been no reply to CAHC’s e-mails to the
company.

“We want Syabas to explain to all condominium water consumers their basis
of calculating the new ‘condominium rate’ and if it has been ratified and
gazetted by the Selangor Government to allow the company to enforce and
charge the new ‘condominium rate’ to consumers,” said Tengku Nazaruddin.
“We have other issues that we would like to discuss with Syabas and would
like to extend a week’s notice to Syabas to reply to our request for a
meeting with representatives.
“If there is no reply by Dec 4, the committee will visit the Syabas
headquarters the next day at 8am,” he said.
Tengku Nazaruddin said Syabas should seek the opinion of all condominium
management committees and residents’ interest groups to get their feedback
and agreement for any changes to their water supply.
“Syabas’ reply in the media stated that they are aware of our problems
and that they would be checking with the Selangor Government to work out a
solution.
“If that is the case, they should not be charging us the new rates until
the thing is resolved.
“Unless Syabas has already decided not to listen to us and this was a PR
exercise from Syabas, CAHC may propose that all condominium, apartments and
high rise owners and residents don’t pay their water bill,” he added. |
