KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The government will enforce the issuing of
Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) to replace the Certificate of
Fitness for Occupancy (CFO) for buildings next year, said Housing and Local
Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting.
He said the CCC would be enforced once Parliament approved amendments to
five Acts and a By-law related to it, namely the Strata Titles Act 1985,
Street, Drainage and Buildings Act 1974, Engineers Act Malaysia 1967,
Architects Act 1967 and Housing Development Act 1964, and the Uniform
Building By-Laws 1993.
"When the new system is in place, it will help reduce bureaucracy but not at
the expense of safety," he told reporters after opening the Third
International Health Exhibition here Friday.
Thursday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had said that in
efforts to enhance the government's delivery system, laws on land
administration and local government, including the CFO, would be amended in
Parliament next year.
"Only individuals who are professionals such as engineers and architects
will be allowed to apply for the CCC. They will also be responsible in
approving the technical aspects of structures, which are governed by
stipulated conditions," said Ong.
Ong also said that to promote healthy living in cities, especially in Kuala
Lumpur, the National Landscape Department with the cooperation of the
Federal Territories Ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall planned to build a
recreation park known as Taman Wilayah.
"A proposal has been submitted to the Cabinet for deliberation and
approval," he said, adding that existing recreation parks in the city also
had to be further developed for the benefit of the people and as tourist
attractions.
