Homebuyers in a fix can seek help from tribunal

CONGRATULATIONS to the group of housebuyers who were awarded compensation by the Court of Appeal for shoddy work done by a housing developer, “Housebuyers win case” (The Star, Jan 19).

Their patience for the past 15 years has finally paid off. This decision serves as a reminder that the authorities will act against errant developers.

The housebuyers must now ensure the judgment is complied with, as it is a common practice for developers to delay paying compensation.

Housebuyers should also know that there is the Tribunal for Housebuyer Claims under the Housing Ministry where they can file their cases for claims of late delivery and shoddy workmanship.

We hope housebuyers who face such problems will not have to wait for 15 years in seeking redress.
