KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- Two double storey terrace houses in Taman
Bukit Pandan, Cheras, here, were badly damaged when boulders came crashing
following a landslide in Jalan Bukit Pandan 3, Friday night.
However, during the 7 pm incident the houses were unoccupied as the
occupants were evacuated on Jan 5 after it was found that the area was no
longer safe following a minor landslide on the same day.
Also evacuated are occupants of five other adjoining houses who are now
putting up in a hotel, said Teng Tien Meng, private secretary to Ampang Jaya
member of Parliament, Datuk Ong Tee Keat, when met at the site.
"Before this several boulders crashed onto a nearby children's playground
and the developer had to evacuate the occupants," he said.
He said owners of both the houses were informed on the incident.
Meanwhile, a resident, Lee Hock Chuan, 48, said those living in the housing
area are now living in fear.
This, he said, is due to the clearing of the hill behind the housing estate.
"We had brought up the matter to the developer but they said the area near
our houses are safe, whereas its frightening especially when its raining
nowadays," he said.
He also urged the authorities to take the necessary steps to ensure the
safety of other residents. |
