RM283 a month for nothing!

KUALA LUMPUR: Residents of a 19-storey condominium, off Jalan 1/3B in Sri
Hartamas feel short-changed by its management.
The 208 residents of the Menara Duta 2 condominium are fuming over the
failure of the management to maintain existing facilities.
According to the residents, the faulty facilities at Block A and B, include
the common changing room, swimming pool, squash courts, tennis courts, lifts
and the children’s playground.
Heaps of rubbish are also piling up near a fire hydrant located at one of
the blocks.
Despite paying a monthly fee of RM283.60, maintenance is not up to the mark,
the residents said.
A Block B resident, marketing manager Song Chung Boon, 31, claimed that
repeated complaints to the management regarding two faulty lifts were not
addressed.
He said that since July, the lifts in Block A and Block B have not been
working.
WHAT A MESS! Rubbish and furniture litter the area around a fire hydrant
While the
management issued a notice that the lifts would be rectified, the residents
were told that the cost of fixing the lifts would be borne by them as the
damage was the work of vandals.
“To repair the faulty lifts in Block B, we were told to come up with
RM16,810,” Song said. “Is this fair? What has happened to our monthly
maintenance fees?”
Another resident, company general manager Ooi Kum Yee said he had sent a
letter of complaint on May 11, to the Housing and Local Government Ministry,
highlighting the woes of the residents.
However, the reply from the Ministry was disappointing, he said.
“The Ministry urged both parties to discuss the matter and come to an
amicable solution,” he added.
Ooi, 45, who has been staying at the condominium since 2003, said that as
residents, they had the right to know how their maintenance fees were spent.
He said the residents are considering legal action against the management.
