Ministry wants written, firm opinion on concept

NST 24/09/2005

THE Housing and Local Government Ministry wants the various industry players to give a written and firm opinion on the proposed build-then-sell concept.

Minister DatuK Seri Ong Ka Ting said once all written commitments are in, the ministry will prepare a memorandum for further deliberation in the Cabinet.

"We are finalizing the draft but we need an official stand by all parties first," said Ong when ask when the draft will be ready.

"Many discussions have been conducted on the build-then-sell concept. They have given us some verbal feedback but now we want a real commitment before we submit this to the Cabinet," he told reporters after launching the Mapex 2005 Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Ong said the build-then-sell concept needs the commitment and support from the banking sector to ensure that developers and house buyers will have the required financial resources.

Meanwhile, Ong said, from 2003 to August 2005, the Tribunal for Home Buyers had resolved 12,709 cases with 1,522 cases still pending.
