Houses still not
ready after six years

KLANG, SELANGOR, JULY 18:
Six years after work on Desa Kerayong Indah started, the project’s
bungalows, semi-detached houses and flats are still under construction.
Buyers are seeing red, and have urged the authorities to intervene and speed
up its completion. Mohd Som Said, 45, who bought a bungalow, said the houses
were supposed to be ready in August 2002.
"We borrowed a lot of money to buy the houses
six years ago, and we were counting on the developer’s promise to complete
them in 2002. Yet this has not happened," he said. Clerk Noraini Hisham, 35,
said: "I bought my house when my first born was still a baby. "He is now in
school, but our new home is still in its construction stage."
Some 1,300 house buyers held a meeting at the
Meru Community Hall here on Saturday to channel their grouses to the
authorities. The meeting was chaired by the buyers’ Action Committee deputy
president Hishamuddin Othman. Hishamuddin said they had written to the
Selangor State Government to seek assistance in speeding up the project.
He said: "We want Selangor State Executive
Councillor for Housing Datuk Mokhtar Dahalan to intervene in the project. We
would be most grateful if he can help."
The housing project began in 1998. It was
established by the State Government on Malay Reserve Land. Its contractor
was initially Bumi Circle Sdn Bhd. In April 2004, the project was handed
over to another contractor, Probil Sonati Sdn Bhd.
Probil Sonati’s head of planning, technology
and construction Mohd Johari Othman said: "The project is still on. There
are some technical issues we must settle with the local authorities, but we
will make sure buyers get their homes."
Mohd Johari said the project is likely to be
ready in August next year. The project’s bungalows, semi-detached houses and
flats are priced between RM128,000 and RM138,000. Mokhtar could not be
reached for comment. |
