CO-OPERATION between neighbours and fellow residents is crucial in fighting
crime and, realising this, the Subang Jaya municipality's Zone 18 Residents'
Committee have started a campaign.
The "Safety and Security Campaign" started on July 23 but was launched by
Selangor state executive councill or Datuk Abdul Rahman Palil in Puchong
Prima residential estate on July 24.
Abdul Rahman, who is chairman of the state committee on Islamic Affairs,
Youth and Community Development, said such an initiative indicates the
people's desire for a better quality of life.
"The basic need of housing has been fulfilled and now residents here want
more in terms of security and facilities that improve living conditions," he
said.
He said greater interaction between residents would go far in helping to
reduce crime rate in the area.
Puchong MP Lau
Yeng Peng said the committee's role was to create awareness and monitor the
developments as well as residents needs in their respective zones.
"The situation is better in this neighbourhood these days, but that is
because of increased police presence," sad Lau, whose constituency has eight
police stations with a total staff strength of 950.
Until Aug 7, Residents Committee chairman Alladin Abbas said, there will be
a series of exhibitions and demonstrations by several organisations like the
police and the Fire and Rescue Services in conjunction with the campaign.
The Zone 18 Residents Committee represents over 6,000 households, largely
located in the rapidly developing residential belt of Puchong Prima and
Puchong Perdana.
Alladin said activities like telematches have also been organised, with the
primary aim of getting the residents to interact.
"We have to start
with knowing one another and building relationships;" he said. |
