Double-parking woes for
residents The Star 14/6/2005
PERMAI VILLA apartment residents want the Subang Jaya Municipal
Council (MPSJ) to help resolve the problem of double parking near
the entrance of their apartments.
The problem is the cause of many accidents.
Cars double-parked near the entrance to the Permai Villa Apartment
blocks.
Permai Villa Residents Associa-tion chairman Mohd Razali Hamid said
many of the apartment dwellers owned two cars and they usually
parked outside the apartments.
“The main road is not very long and cars line the whole stretch and
this has led some of the apartment dwellers to double park as a
result,” he said.
He added that the cars completely blocked the view of the motorists
leaving the apartments and this had resulted in vehicles being hit
by on-coming cars.
Mohd Razali said the accidents though minor had caused residents a
lot of money in repairs.
He urged the council to create parking bays for those who had more
than one car or for visitors to park.
“Now, there are not enough bays inside so we have to offer the
residents alternative parking bays which they have to use
discriminately and not pose a threat to others,'' he said.
MPSJ councillor Awtar Singh, who is also the MPSJ Residents
Committee zone chairman for the area, said the problem was not just
at Permai Villa.
“There were similar reports from Pusat Bandar Puchong and Bandar
Puteri as well.
He said he had proposed that the council build parking bays at the
road shoulders that could be fitted with parking meters.
He added that if people continued to park haphazardly after the bays
were constructed, the council could then tow the vehicles away or
fine the vehicle owners.
Awtar Singh said he had also proposed that the council meet the
apartment management committees to urge them to lower the charges
for the second parking bay as some of them charged high fees.
However, he said the council had yet to act on any of the proposals
despite the matter having been raised months ago.
