SHAH ALAM: One of the developers who cleared large areas of land
next to the Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam Agriculture Park that sparked a
public outcry recently was today fined RM60,000 by the Sessions
Court for not complying with the conditions of the Environmental
Impact Assessment (EIA) approval.
Judge Suraya Othman imposed the fine after Sin Heap Lee Development
Sdn Bhd, represented by its director Au Lai Koong, pleaded guilty to
the charge under Section 34A(7) of the Environmental Quality Act
1974.
The offence carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or five years' jail
or both, if convicted. Au paid the fine.
Sin Heap Lee admitted to not complying with the conditions of the
EIA approval dated Jan 7, 2003, including not providing an adequate
drainage system.
It also did not build an embankment around the liquid fuel reserve
tank to control spillage or display the EIA approval conditions at
the project site.
The company committed the offence on Nov 24 last year.
