charged with collecting down payments without licence

SHAH ALAM: A housing developer was charged in the Sessions Court here today
with three counts of collecting down payments totalling over RM100,000 from
17 housebuyers without a licence.
Restige Group Sdn Bhd, represented by its manager, Casey Lee, pleaded not
guilty.
On the first charge, the company is alleged to have collected RM34,272 from
six people as booking fees for houses in a housing estate purportedly known
as Taman Sri Mekar, Gombak, without a housing developers licence between Jan
10 and 17, 2003.
It faces two more counts of collecting RM42,256 from six housebuyers between
Jan 17 and Feb 13 and another RM28,581 from five housebuyers between Jan 30
and Feb 19 the same year at the same place.
If convicted, Restige Group faces a fine of between RM50,000 and RM500,000
or a jail term of up to three years, or both, on each charge under the Housing
Developers Act 1966.
Nurul Liana Mamat of the Housing and Local Government Ministry appeared for
the prosecution while the company was represented by counsel A.R.Palaya.
Judge Suraya Othman fixed June 28 for mention. |
