Relocation delay irks residents

KUALA LUMPUR: Furious residents in Kampung Seri Endah are letting their
feelings show after they found out that a promise of relocating them to
new flats built by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) 10 years ago has not been
kept.
DBKL promised the residents in the area that they would
be shifted to the new flats once they were completed because their living
quarters at the time were not fit for living.
The flat, known as PPR Salak South, was completed early
this year and is located just next to the Salak South New Village Market.
DBKL however wasn't able to fulfill the promise as
illegal squatters had occupied the flats and the administration is having
trouble chasing them out.
Currently; most of the residents are living in
longhouses that are run-down, which poses a danger to the owners. Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, who recently visited the area,
said the place was difficult for people to live in. "Cracks on ceilings
and piles of rubbish as well as blocked drainage creates an unhealthy
environment to live in," she said.
She added that the area also experienced frequent flash
floods and that the residents reported many cases of dengue fever.
The residents had asked the DAP to rectify the situation
and Kok wrote a letter to DBKL on Monday to urge them to take immediate
action to relocate the residents to the flats.
"I tried my best and did all I could to help the people
but it all depends on DBKL now and 1 hope they will look into the matter
as soon as possible," she said.
Meanwhile; a family of six who lost everything in a fire
on April 29 were given a glimmer of hope. The head of the family, Choong
Choo, 56, was presented keys to his new apartment at PPR Salak South by
Kok.
Kok had helped the family by making arrangements to
provide a temporary home for them before they are ready to move into their
new apartment. |
