Land owners slapped with stop-work order
The Malay Mail 23/4/2005
KUALA LUMPUR: Three land owners in Taman Duta were slapped with a
stop-work order by City Hall for failing to get approval for development
work at their respective sites. They were also
fined RM50,000 each for flouting the local authority's Drainage and
Building Control Act 1974.
The 14-day notice was issued to the owners on April 11,
and they have until Monday to comply, said City Hall public relations
officer Hanim Hashim in a statement to The Malay Mail yesterday.
She said the owners were also required to submit a fresh
set of plans on their projects to Datuk Bandar Datuk Ruslin Hassan,
through City Hall's Planning and Building Control Department and its
Public Works Department for consideration.
"So far, we have not received any application on their
projects," said Hanim, when asked if the owners had submitted applications
to carry out work at the sites in Taman Duta.
One of the sites is for a luxury bungalow opposite Seri
Duta 1 Condominium in Jalan Gallagher where earth was piled high without
silt traps or plastic sheets to prevent soil from being washed down; while
another is said to be a water retention area which has since been levelled
at the junction of Jalan Cemerlang.
The authorities are also concerned about a housing
project between Jalan Taman Duta and Jalan Tengku Ampuan where procedures
were not followed, and a green lung beside the condominium (Seri Duta 1)
which is slated for a block comprising 200 units, sometime this year.
The Malay Mail had reported on April 4, that Taman Duta
residents were worried about the manner in which the projects were being
developed in their area.
They claimed that apart from the rampant clearing of
trees over the past three weeks, there was no supervision of the work
carried out by the contractors.
Seri Duta 1 Condominium management council chairman
Annie Livesey had claimed that the construction of a bungalow next to
theirs in Jalan Gallagher, was carried out without any supervision from
the authorities.
She said the residents had written to City Hall about
the matter but there was no response.
It was also reported in The Malay Mail on April 11 that
Segambut MP Datuk Tan Kee Kwong, who visited the area, had said that the
projects in Taman Duta either did not have applications to develop the
sites, or their applications were rejected by City Hall. |
