Isa: Checks carried out on apartments

City Hall has carried out checks on high-rise flats and apartments in six parliamentary areas under the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur following complaints from residents after Tuesday's earthquake in Sumatra.

Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Mohamed Isa Samad said City Hall Operations Room had recorded complaints of tremors felt in Bandar Tun Razak, Batu, Lembah Pantai, Titiwangsa, Segambut and Seputeh.

Isa who was speaking to reporters after chairing a post-Cabinet briefing at his office in Putrajaya said rescue squad members were dispatched to the areas to ascertain if the buildings were secure.

“The team did not come across new cracks as a result of the earthquake and some of the cracks investigated were old ones. Perhaps residents were unaware of these cracks prior to the tremors,” he said.

Isa also said t the Federal Territory Disaster Committee would come up with a better notification system to relay news more comprehensively.
