Repairs to Medan toll plaza sinkhole completed

KUALA LUMPUR: A large sinkhole, which appeared before the Medan Toll Plaza on the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) following the tremors have been repaired and opened to traffic at 10pm on Tuesday.

NPE general manager Neoh Soon Hiong said the repair work on the sinkhole, measuring 3.5m in diameter and 1m in depth was slowed down due to the downpour.

“Traffic is flowing smoothly,” he said when contacted.

In a statement on Tuesday, Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said the sinkhole could have been caused by the tremors and a possible limestone cavity in the lower layer of the road.

Meanwhile the Works Ministry’s Maintenance Regulatory Division director Jauhari Taib said no cracks were found on any government building.
