Khir: Court right to fine PKNS
NST 12/3/2005
KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 11:
Action will be taken against anyone who breaks the law, even if it is a
subsidiary of the State Government, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohd
Khir Toyo avows.
Asked to comment on the RM330,000 fine imposed on the
Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), Khir, who is its chairman
said: "The law is the law. There is no compromise and I am firm in my
stand that anyone who breaks the law will be dealt with in one way or
another."
PKNS was fined RM300,000 for carrying out land clearing work last month in
Section U10 without first obtaining a planning permit from Shah Alam City
Council, and RM30,000 for carrying out land work without prior approval
from the council.
"If action is not taken just because the company is the State's
subsidiary, it will not be fair. The Court's ruling is justified," he
said.
Asked if he, as PKNS chairman, had been briefed about the land clearing,
Khir said many things were discussed at meetings and he could not remember
whether the issue was raised.
Also, Khir said he was not sure of the whereabouts of PKNS general manager
Datuk Harun Salim.
Meanwhile, PKNS Press officer Mohd Wazir Abdul Ghani said he had not
received any instructions from the top management. "I have not been able
to contact the general manager. I am waiting for instructions from him."
He said he was informed that Harun was not well and was resting at home. |
