Dispute over shoddy work led to shooting
Sunday Star 27/3/2005 By Andrew SagayamKUALA LUMPUR: The shooting of a sub-contractor on Friday
followed a dispute over shoddy work allegedly carried out by the victim.
Police have remanded the 52-year-old businessman who fired the shot.
City police chief Comm Datuk Mustafa Abdullah said that in the 10am
incident, sub-contractor Yew Chee Leong, 46, had gone to the office of the
prominent businessman in Jalan Pudu with an elder brother and a friend.
The three men were responsible for laying tiles and carrying out
renovation work at a housing project managed by the businessman.
Yew demanded payment from the businessman for the job that had been done
but he refused to pay up.
According to sources, the businessman was to have paid RM2.4mil for the
job and had so far paid RM2mil.
“The businessman claimed that he had received many complaints on the
quality of work done by the men and told them they may have to redo some
of the work,” Comm Mustafa said, adding that this angered Yew who kept
insisting for the payment.
“This triggered an argument between the two, resulting in the businessman
whipping out a pistol and shooting Yew,” said Comm Mustafa.
Helped by his brother, friend and staff members of the company, Yew was
rushed to nearby Tung Shin Hospital. He was later transferred to Kuala
Lumpur Hospital. |
