residents fear collapse

KUALA LUMPUR: Residents of Block G162 of the Pekeliling Flats here fear
for their safety after cracks developed on the walls of the building.
Housewife P. Bavani, 42, said the cracks appeared
several months ago, but they got worse after the Dec 26 Aceh earthquake.
"At that time, we felt the ground shaking twice but did
not know what really happened. We are afraid our block will collapse."
Manager Lim Kim Chuan, 41, whose parents are staying on
the 15th floor, said he noticed cracks on the corridor beams on his floor
and the ground floor two months ago.
"I am concerned for my parents' safety. I complained to
City Hall by e- mail last Saturday and hope inspections will be carried
out as soon as possible," said Lim.
"We want to know if the block is really safe to stay in.
I have yet to get any response from City Hall."
City Hall could not be contacted for comment yesterday. |
