Rep: Housebuyers need to move

MALACCA: The state government has given the developer of Taman Seri Bertam
and its financier 10 days to settle their differences. This has caused a
delay in the issuance of the Certificate of Fitness (CF) for the second
phase of the project.
State executive councillor Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam said the CF should have
been issued in August, and the delay is causing problems for housebuyers.
“Of the more than 100 buyers, 70% are soldiers who have received notices to
move out from their army camps. But they cannot move into their new homes,”
the Housing, Local Government, Environment and Transport Committee chairman
said yesterday.
The soldiers, he added, had been paying their loan instalments since May.
He said this after a dialogue with the developer, Vision Chart Sdn Bhd,
Southern Finance Bhd and housebuyers at the project site.
Construction of the second phase of Taman Seri Bertam, comprising 107 units
of single-storey terrace houses, started in December 2002.
Poh hoped the developer and financier would settle the problem between them
within the given period, noting that housebuyers expected the CF to be
issued by Dec 31.
According to Vision Chart director Tan Tiong Sang, his firm had hired a
contractor to build the sewage treatment plant for the second phase.
However, he said, Southern Finance had yet to sign the discharge for five
units of the terrace houses, intended to serve as contra payment for
construction of the treatment plant.
“The second phase of the project was completed in February. We are waiting
for the answer from the financier in order to apply for the CF,” he said.
A representative from Southern Finance, who refused to be named, said he
would forward a proposal in relation to the problem to his director. |
