Still no keys
07/10/2005 NST

MY wife bought an apartment unit which was developed by the subsidiary of a public-listed company.
It is almost five years since we signed the sale and purchase agreement but we have yet to obtain the keys to the unit.

We have made numerous visits and calls to the developer and we have been given the runaround each time.

When we went to the building site, all we saw were blocks of uncompleted units.

Upon lodging our complaint with the Bahagian Pengawasan dan Penguatkuasa (enforcement unit) at the Housing and Local Government Ministry, we realised we were only one of the many house-buyers affected.

All of us, the "victims", are suffering from the financial strain of servicing our loans. The developer has not come up with any solution to our problems.

We appeal to the authorities to come to our assistance. Our estimate is that there are at least five to six blocks of apartments where work has stopped. About 1,000 house buyers are affected.
