KUALA LUMPUR, Fri. - Narajaya Sdn.Bhd. developer of the Bandar Bukit Mahkota
project, was today fined RM40,000 by the Sessions Court in Ampang for
flouting environmental regulations.
Narajaya was charged with violating regulations set in the company's
approved Environmental Impact Assessment report.
Two types of suspended solids retrieved from its retaining pond were found
to be above the permissible levels.
Ibrahim Sateri, representing Narajaya, pleaded guilty.
Judge Noradidah Ahmad said the court took into consideration the guilty plea
but noted the company had two previous convictions. It was fined RM10,000 in
1999 and RM5,000 in 1998.
"The court has to take into consideration public interest as such action has
resulted in the quality of our rivers being degraded, especially the Cheras
and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants." |
