Death of boy in lift shaft: Case in cops’
hands
The Malay Mail 25/10/2005 SANGEETHA NAIR
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 The father of 10-year-old Fong Wei Xiong, who died
after falling down a lift shaft at their Suria Magna Apartments last
Saturday, has lodged a police report against the management company.
Fong Loy Fat, his wife Wong Chui Ling, and their three
children went to the Kepong police station to make the report yesterday.
However, he was advised against speaking to the Press about the report.
"Police say they will
take it from here and that I should stop making statements to the Press,"
said Fong.
Earlier, he went to Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Kepong Satu where
his sons, Wei Xiong and Wei Hor, nine, studied.
It was reported in the New Straits Times yesterday that Wei Hor’s teacher
refused to believe him when he said his elder brother had fallen down the
lift shaft.
"I wanted to know why the teacher refused to believe my son. I am saddened
to learn that she even accused him of lying. How can she assume he was
making up such a story? She should have called us."
Fong said he later met the school’s headmaster, Tee Sue Tee, who told him
that there had been a miscommunication.
"Wei Hor did not exactly tell the teacher that his brother had fallen down
the lift. He only said Wei Xiong had fallen down the stairs and that I was
home and his mother was at work.
"That was why the teacher thought things were under control. I am satisfied
with the explanation," said Fong.
When The Malay Mail visited Block Two of the apartments yesterday, we saw
representatives from the management company, the developer and the lift
company inspecting the lift where the incident occurred.
They were surrounded by residents, including Wei Hor and Wong. |
