Poor location the main cause of abandoned housing projects
Malay Mail 8/9/2004

KUALA LUMPUR: Poor location and inability of developers to obtain bridging loans are among the causes of abandoned housing projects, the Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Housing and Local Government Ministry, Datuk Dr K. Subramaniam said fraud by contractors, disputes between landowners and developers and internal problems of the companies also contributed to the problem.

Of the 199 abandoned housing projects from 1990 up to now, 92 had been revived, 99 were still abandoned and eight had been identified as suitable for revival, he said in reply to Hashim Jahaya (BN-Kuala Kedah).

The action taken included holding discussions among the developers, purchasers, technical agencies and banks and providing advice and guidelines to parties intending to take over any abandoned project, he said.

The government also worked with Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) to conduct studies on abandoned projects and hand the projects to SPNB to revive. - Bernama
