RESIDENTS of the Cochrane public housing scheme (PPR)
in Jalan Peel have urged City Hall to hear their grouses to solve
housing problems in the area.
Topping their list of complaints is not being
allowed to hang their clothes to dry from the windows.
Ngam Yoong Fatt, who moved in last month, said
City Hall should allow residents to hang their clothes from the
windows.
"This should be all right if the clothes could not
be clearly seen from the outside," he said.
Another resident M. Muthugumar, who moved in three
months ago. said City Hall should provide residents with an
alternative space for hanging out their clothes as there was no
space for drying laundry in the flats.
He also called on Telekom Malaysia to speed up the
installation of telephone lines at the flats.
Muthugumar said the absence of telephones in the
area had caused a lot of anguish for his son who was scalded with
hot water recently but could not call an ambulance.
He also hoped that road humps be built on certain
roads near the flats especially near the playground as it was
dangerous for children to cross the road leading to the playgound.
Tang Kin Weng, 16, said City Hall should provide a
place for the elderly to rest and spend their evening with social
activities.
"They should not be deprived of the things they
used to do in their villages," he added.
Muthugumar claimed that their complaints were not
heeded every time they visited the City Hall office in the area.
Asked to comment on the complaints after attending
a City Hall Excellent Service Award presentation on Monday, Datuk
Bandar, Mohmad Shaid Mohd Taufek said the residents could dry their
clothes on the ground floor.
He said it would be an eyesore to see clothes hung
on windows of the flats. |
