Apply For Strata Titles Quickly, Housing Developers Told

PENANG, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon has urged housing developers to expedite application for strata titles upon completion of their high-rise projects.

He said developers were supposed to apply for the titles as soon as half or the entire block of flats, apartments or condominiums had been occupied.

So far, 70 per cent of the 1,200 high-rise residential blocks in Penang had strata titles, he told reporters after opening the seminar on Strata Titles Act organised by the Gerakan here, Sunday.

On the delay of issuing strata titles to the flats in Jalan Padang Tembak, here, he said the problem was due to missing blueprint of the building.

"When there are renovation works, the size of the building changed, so the original blueprint will have to be amended," he said.

Koh also suggested that the Housing Act be reviewed to enable buyers to form a committee to monitor the progress of housing projects.
