Submit complaints on cracks, folks told

The Star 20/08/2004

THE Monitoring and Enforcement Division under the Housing and Local Government Ministry has requested residents of Pinggiran Batu Caves flats in Taman Seri Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, to submit their complaints on cracks which have surfaced on the walls of the buildings.

The division chief K.G. Param said he hoped that a representative of the residents could meet his officers again to provide information before it called for a meeting with the developer.

Param was speaking to a group of residents and Kepong MP Dr Tan Seng Giaw during their visit to the ministry’s office in Pusat Bandar Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, last Thursday.

The residents claimed that the developer did not do enough to rectify cracks on corridors and drains of the buildings and provide proper lighting, which made residents feel unsafe when using the staircase.

Dr Tan told Param that an unsafe environment would lead to crime in the area.

Later, Dr Tan told the reporters that the division would visit the flats once they received the complaints from the residents.

He said he would visit the Gombak district land office with the residents soon to find out the status of their applications for strata titles for the flats.
