Residents
protest over authorities' refusal to issue land titles

MORE than 500 houseowners in Jinjang Selatan Tambahan are crying foul over
the authorities' refusal to issue them with land titles for their
properties. They claimed that a recent application
to the land office revealed that the area had been handed over to Kuala
Lumpur City Hall for development.
"Jinjang Selatan Tambahan is basically an extension of
the Jinjang North and Jinjang South New Villages, and all three enjoy a
similar quality of life as the former has been provided with all amenities
such as water and electricity supplies and well-developed traffic and
drainage systems, schools, places of worship and a market," said MCA Kepong
service centre head Yee Poh Ping.
"However, residents of Jinjang North and South New
Villages have already received their land titles for a 99-year period
while the applications of those from Jinjang Selatan Tambahan were
rejected on the basis that the land has been handed over to Kuala Lumpur
City Hall for development," said Yee during a recent Press conference and
protest by residents in Jinjang Selatan Tambahan.
"This is extremely unfair as residents of Jinjang
Selatan Tambahan have lived here for more than 30 years and have dutifully
paid their quit rent and assessment fees," he said, adding that the land
office had stopped collection of quit rent since 1997.
According to Yee, the first application for land titles
was made in 1980.
"It yielded no response. After years of waiting, the
residents made a second application recently which was again rejected with
no reasons given. However, when they pursued the matter, the land office
wrote back informing them the land had been handed over to City Hall for
development," said Yee.
"They highlighted the matter to the public complaints
bureau of the Prime Minister's Department only to be told that nothing
could be done as City Hall had jurisdiction over the area," said Yee.
"I am appealing to the Datuk Bandar to stop negotiations
with the parties involved in the development project. I also urge City
Hall to return the land to the land office so that titles can be issued to
the deserving residents," he said.
"We want the PM to intervene by instructing the Federal
Territory Land Committee to issue land titles to those affected for a
period of 99 years," said Yee adding that he also planned to write to
Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad on the matter. |
