Khir: I was angry and disappointed
Malay Mail 27/8/2004
SHAH ALAM: If you have bought homes in Selangor in which the housing
scheme has been abandoned, you are in good company. Even the Selangor
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo, had been a victim.
Dr Khir is stuck when a RM70,000 apartment unit he bought in a scheme in
Salak Tinggi 10 years ago was abandoned.
It was when he was a dentist in Kajang.
"Until now, the house has not been completed. The last time I went there
a few weeks ago, there was still no improvement.
"The piling work had not even started!", he said.
He was so caught up with the project that he even persuaded his sister
to invest in the scheme.
"She was raving mad when the project was abandoned, and I had to
persuade her to stay with me," he said.
"I know the feeling. I was angry and very disappointed. When I was
appointed Menteri Besar, I promised myself to focus on this matter and
solve housing woes in Selangor so that no one would feel what I felt".
The abandoned project by Sepang Development Bhd is still struggling to
get off the ground.
Dr Khir shared his experience when The Malay Mail asked him about the
problem faced by buyers of the Villaria Apartment project in Jalan Klang
Lama.
"We are dealing with a bankrupt developer. The Federal Government, under
Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB), had agreed to take over the
building of the low-cost houses which were to be built by TD Management
Sdn Bhd," he said.
On the medium-cost apartments, Dr Khir said there are two companies
willing to take over the abandoned project.
"However, the Government is still negotiating with the developers," he
said.
On house buyers' claims that the area representative had refused to help
them on the matter, the Menteri Besar said there must have been a
misunderstanding.
"I assure the buyers that their problems are being addressed."
He also said he will approach housing woes in Selangor specifically and
personally.
"Give me time to solve each of them because they have different problems
which need to be tackled specifically." |
