House buyers’ 25 years of agony

08/07/2004 The Star

THERE has been quite a bit of publicity in the media on abandoned housing projects in Penang. I am one of the victims of these abandoned projects which dates back to 1979 when the sales and purchase agreement was signed.

The case was referred to the housing ministry countless times and is now in the hands of the Pejabat Pemegang Harta, Penang.

We the house buyers (about 40 of us, some already dead) were assured of refunds of our progress payments and loans but after 25 years of agony, nothing has transpired.

Actually, my parents purchased this property with their hard earned money and are now too old to pursue the matter with the authorities and have entrusted it to me to carry on. In time to come, my children will end up with the responsibility.

I would appreciate if the authorities could make available what is rightfully ours in cash or kind.

SECOND GENERATION VICTIM,
Kuala Lumpur.
