KUALA LUMPUR, Tues. - Housing developers should provide termite control
systems to buyers to ensure that the properties are pest-free, said the
Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
"I hope, in the near future, our country would consider adopting practices
and policies for termite treatment on housing projects, similar to what
other countries had done," said Deputy Minister Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew.
Termites are a serious problem because many houses in Malaysia are built on
former plantation land.
In some countries, properties must be certified to be termite-free before
being sold. Otherwise banks would not approve loans for them, he said.
