AN ERODING slope near the Riana Green Condominium
in Petaling Jaya has been worrying residents for the past three
months.
Riana Green Residents Association vice-president
Joel Pang said the fact that it occurred outside the condo limits
had exacerbated the problem.
Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Yong Dai Ying visited the
area on Thursday with representatives from the Petaling Jaya
Municipal Council (MPPJ), residents and the condominium’s property
management company officials.

“I was notified about this in April, and had
alerted the authorities about the problem, but nothing much had been
done,” said Yong.
This was her second visit to the site in two
months, and the assemblyman, too, was worried about the eroding
slope.
“We have not established whose jurisdiction it
falls under – MPPJ or the developer, but we have MPPJ officers here
today to look at the extent of erosion,” she said.
She added that bad drainage was possibly the cause
of the erosion.
She hoped that remedial work could be carried out
as soon as possible to prevent further damage, especially since
excessive water seeping into the ground could loosen the soil and
affect the foundation of the condominium blocks that were barely
metres away.
Part of the drain is broken and now partly
buried.
Pang said many residents had bought the apartments
and had been happy with the neighbourhood until the erosion took
their peace away.
Their condominium is one toll plaza away from the
Bukit Lanjan rock fall area, where one stretch of the New Klang
Valley Expressway had to be closed to traffic for almost six
months.
The residents had reason to be uneasy about the
soil erosion next to their condominium since it might be an early
warning for the authorities to remedy the situation quickly, said
Yong.
