Apartment does not come with
parking bay
Sunday Star 18/04/2004
MY husband and I have just bought an apartment in the Kuala Lumpur
city centre. When we signed up for the property during the launch,
we were not told that a parking bay was not included.
Having lived in apartments most of our lives, we expected it to come
with a parking bay. We actually sold our apartment in the outskirts
of the city to move there so that we could be closer to our
workplace.
To our dismay, when we collected our keys, we were told to apply for
a parking bay for which we have to pay a monthly fee. Allotment of
parking bays is on a first-come-first-served basis.
We only budgeted for the monthly maintenance fees of 25 sen per
square foot, and not a monthly parking fee.
Those who refuse to pay end up parking illegally outside the
apartment premises.
The developers should have told us the apartment did not come with a
parking bay when we signed up to buy the property. We had assumed
that all apartment units came with parking bays.
I was told that developers of service apartments have a right not to
provide parking bays. However, our service apartment does not even
have the facilities that other service apartments provide, and they
are owner occupied, like mine.
