A TOTAL of 76,306 affordable homes are being built using Bank
Negara’s RM1.1bil Revolving Fund for Low-Cost Housing (TPPKR)
scheme, TPPT Sdn Bhd chairman Md Yusof Hussain said.
Md Yusoff said 29 projects had been proposed under the scheme to
cater to demand for affordable housing in the Federal Territory,
Selangor, Johor, Sabah and Penang.
“We have so far completed 11,866 units,” he said, adding that
under the scheme, a total of 24,511 low cost, 9,516 low medium cost,
25,325 medium cost and 16,954 ordinary homes would be built.
Md Yusoff said TPPT was initially set up by Bank Negara to manage
the Abandoned Housing Revival Fund and “we have successfully revived
74 projects covering 18,585 units.”
“Now we are focusing on providing affordable housing for the
lower income group,” he said at the affordable homes project
ground-breaking ceremony in Teluk Kumbar in Penang on Friday.
Also present were guest of honour Prime Minister Datuk Seri
Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar
Aziz, Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Deputy Chief
Minister Datuk Dr Hilmi Yahaya and State Secretary Datuk Khalid
Ramli.
Md Yusoff said TPPT had identified four housing projects to build
5,114 housing units in the state, with “most of the units costing
less than RM100,000 each”.
He said TPPT was collaborating with Southdowns Corporations Sdn
Bhd to build 2,599 housing units in Teluk Kumbar.
“This project will have 712 low cost and 1,014 medium cost units,
480 apartment units, 293 terrace units and 100 commercial units to
be completed in three phases,” he said.
Abdullah urged the district office and the land office to
expedite approval so that the project would not be delayed, adding
that the “people are waiting to own affordable homes.”
Dr Koh said the building of affordable homes “reflects the caring
nature of the Barisan Nasional Government”.
