BUYERS of four apartment blocks at the new RM62mil
market-apartment complex in Macallum Street Ghaut, Penang, have
formed a protem committee to look into a pending problem with the
developer.
Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Lee Hack Teik said the buyers took up
his advice to form the committee as they would have a better voice
in raising issues affecting them.
“The purchasers were upset with the developer for sending them
letters which required them to pay RM540 each for three months'
maintenance deposit and six months' maintenance advance.
“They were asked to pay the amount before the keys to their units
could be handed to them,'' he said.
Lee added that the buyers were reluctant to pay the amount as the
certificate of fitness (CF) had yet to be obtained.
He said in the letter, the developer stated that the buyers were
given 14 days' grace from the date of the letter March 16 to settle
the amount, failing which late payment charges or penalty would be
borne by the buyers.
“By forming the committee, the buyers can now be represented at
any discussions with the developer on how best to settle this
problem,'' he said.
Committee chairman Lim Chooi Soon said there were a total of 507
units in the low-medium-cost project.
He said the committee would seek a meeting with the developer
soon on the matter.
