A storeroom of a luxury condominium unit in Gurney Drive was gutted by fire at 12.49pm on Sunday.

The third floor unit’s owner is said to be the general manger of a popular resort in Batu Ferringhi.

It was believed that the storeroom at Silverton had a mini sauna besides books and files.

The owner’s wife, who was at home, alerted the guards and the residents were evacuated before the arrival of the fire brigade.

Three engines from the Bagan Jermal and Perak Road fire stations arrived with 22 firemen and put out the blaze by 2.30pm.

According to the fire officer in charge Hussin Abdullah, the damage was estimated at RM100,000, while the cause of the fire was still being investigated.
