More than 1,000 shoplots and offices in Penang's
65-storey Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak (Komtar), opened more than 25
years ago, may get their strata titles soon.
Deputy Land and Co-operative Development Minister Dr Tan Kee Kwong
said the survey on the complex by the state Survey and National
Mapping Department had been completed.
The survey was done following an application for the strata titles
by the Penang Development Corporation (PDC), the developer of Komtar.
Dr Tan, who visited the state Survey and National Mapping Department
in Penang recently, said the PDC had applied for the strata titles
to the state Land and Mines Department in 2001.
The PDC took more than 18 months to make preparations before it made
an official application for the strata titles, he said.
He said the state Survey and National Mapping Department was given
the task to carry out the survey and make recommendations to the
state Land and Mines Department on whether Komtar units should get
their strata titles.
State Survey and National Mapping department director Marzuki Mohd
Kassim in his briefing to Dr Tan, said he was very confident that
the Komtar units would be issued strata titles soon.
He added: “Before my retirement at the end of next month, I should
be able to put down my signature to recommend to the state Land and
Mines Department that Komtar units be given the strata titles.
“Among the problems faced was the overlapping of ownership of
infrastructure such as ‘roads' between premises at the complex.”
