Turn abandoned projects into homes, developers urged
THE MALAY MAIL 05/10/2004
PUTRAJAYA: Developers of abandoned commercial projects have been
advised
to build residential properties instead. This call was made by Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Isa Samad
to
26 developers who met him at his office in Putrajaya yesterday.
"From the discussion with the developers, we find that they are
committed to resuming their projects as soon as possible," said Isa.
"Seven of them had agreed to convert their commercial projects to
residential ones such as service apartments or condominiums. But
they have
to restructure their plan and carry out market research first.
"Another option is for the developer to downsize their projects.
They
can reduce the number of office lots and allocate the rest for
residential
lots."
Isa said Bank Negara will discuss with local banks to help the
developers financially.
The Ministry had recently taken over the task of the Abandoned
Project
Committee, which was previously under the purview of the Prime
Minister's
Department.
Besides Bank Negara, other members of the committee are the Finance
Ministry, City Hall, the Valuation and Property Services Department
and
commercial banks. |
