Of Irresponsibility, Says Hisham

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Education Minister, Datuk Hishammuddin
Tun Hussein, Thursday chided those who caused a secondary and a primary
school in Langkawi to be left idle for the last two years.
The Ministry, he said, would immediately track down those responsible and
take appropriate measures to ensure that the schools, which cost RM40 million,
were utilised.
"Those given the trust must fulfil their responsibilities. They may be the
district officer, education director or officers," he told reporters after
chairing his ministry's post-cabinet meeting here.
He vowed to personally find out the reason for the delay in the issuance
of the certificates of fitness for the buildings and decide on the next
course of action.
He was asked about a newspaper report that Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Menghulu
and Sekolah Menengah Kelibang in Langkawi had been left idle since they
were completed in 2002 because no CFs were issued.
The report quoted the Langkawi District Council president, Datuk Rafli Basir,
as saying that not only the CFs were not issued, but the location and building
plans were also not submitted before their construction.
Hishammuddin said he would make sure the contractors, the Public Works Department
or all parties involved in the project find ways to sort out the problem.
"We will make sure such things will not happen again in the Ninth Malaysia
Plan," he added.
He promised to ensure that the schools were occupied as soon as the problems
related to the CFs were thrashed out.
