Fallen objects give residents the jitters
The Star 16/10/2004

RESIDENTS staying in Cangkat Tembaga in Green Lane, Penang, are having many sleepless nights since construction work on the 26-storey Greenlane Park project began about two years ago.

Last month, a metal plate fell from the construction site, smashing the rooftop of one of the houses in the area.

The latest incident occurred last Wednesday when part of the scaffoldings used in the construction work landed on top of a house belonging to a retiree, Lee Thean Sung.

“We may not be lucky all the time. I am afraid that one day the construction materials will fall onto passers-by,” he added.

He said the developer should take the necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the public, especially residents staying nearby.

DAP action team chief Tham Weng Fatt said he had received many complaints from the residents but so far no prompt action has been taken by the developer.

“It seems that the plight of the residents is not taken seriously,” he said.

He added that since the project was located near a residential area, the developer should put up a safety net around the project to avoid any untoward incident.
