KUALA LUMPUR: Prime
Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has urged the Cuepacs
Co-operative to work with developers in meeting the demand for
housing from civil servants.
He said it was time the co-operative doubled its
efforts in this area.
“The demand for houses has increased as people
have come to realise the importance of owning their own homes.
“Through this way, the co-operative will not only
build more homes for its members but will also control the quality
of these houses,” he said.

He said this in his speech read out by Housing and
Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting at the launching of
Wisma Koperasi Cuepacs in Sentul Raya here yesterday.
Abdullah said the co-operative's management should
also be ready to accept and bring changes to its activities if it
wanted to compete with the private sector.
“In the fast-moving business world, it is
important for the co-operative to adopt new strategies and be
proactive in seizing business opportunities,” he said.
However, he said, the interests of the
co-operative's members should not be sidelined regardless of the
strategies adopted.
“The main objective in forming the co-operative is
to help civil servants, especially those in the lower-income group,”
he said.
