Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon has been urged to
intervene in the problems faced by Kayangan Puri Mutiara apartment
residents in Fettes Park.
State Keadilan deputy chairman Cheah Kah Peng said yesterday that
Dr Koh, being the Tanjung Bungah assemblyman and the apartments'
residents association (RA) patron, should step in to find a solution
to their problems.
He said residents there were living in fear as several incidents
had been occurring, including thefts, vandalism and the recent case
where four men attacked a resident.
“It has been five days since the incident occurred, and no action
has been taken against the perpetrators, although a police report
had been lodged,” he told reporters after the victim Quek Yew Guan,
36, related his nightmare at the party's service centre in Bangkok
Lane.
It was reported on Saturday that Quek, an electrical appliance
repairman, had received 25 stitches on the head after four men
attacked him at the apartments’ compound. Quek was pushing his
motorcycle past the security post when the incident occurred at 7pm
on Thurs-day.
The apartments’ RA chairman Hughie Lee said such incidents were
unacceptable, and urged the property management company and the
authorities to take action to improve the situation.
He said many people were moving out due to the never-ending
incidents occurring at the apartments.
“I hope the police will take action against the culprits and give
us all the protection that we need,'' he added.
When contacted, Bukit Bendera MP Chia Kwang Chye said he would
arrange for a dialogue session between the management company and
the RA soon to help resolve matters.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Othman Talib said the
suspects had been identified, adding that “we will haul them up by
tonight.”
