A WELL-MEANING gesture led to a messy chain of Taman Bukit Maluri in
Kepong, engaged the services of a security firm following an incident two
years ago in which a seven-year old-girl was raped in her home.
The residents formed a pro tem committee and are awaiting
the Registrar of Societies (ROS) approval for their Jalan Bukit Maluri
1-7 Residents Association.
But the move was opposed by Sim Kooi Soon, who that the
pro-tem committee had ignored proper procedures in forming the residents
association.
Sim, a former committee member, had lodged several
reports against them, including those to the Inspector-General's office.
"The residents have taken the law into their own hands
by recruiting the security company, and had also contravented the law by
conducting activities before applying to the ROS," he claimed.
Committee secretary Telly Teh said the approval for
their association has been delayed for a year and that they had sought the
help of Kepong police when forming the association.
Teh said the whole community was moved into action after
the rape-and-robbery incident.
"We no longer felt safe even in our own homes. The
urgency of the situation required immediate action," he said, adding that
Kepong police statistics showed a zero's crime rate since the security
patrols started in their neighbourhood."
"Previously, residents did not know one another. After
the incident, we started organizing get-togethers and realized the
importance of knowing your neighbours."
The said that based on Sim's complaints, they may now be
facing action from the Government. |
