Rates cut for residents of new high-rise buildings

4/11/2003 The Star

ESTHER CHANDRAN at the AMPANG JAYA MUNICIPAL COUNCIL Full Board Meeting

THOSE moving into new apartments, condominiums and flats in Ampang Jaya are entitled to a 20% discount off their assessment rates.

“It is only fair for those who live in high-rise apartments to have a slight discount as they are already burdened with monthly maintenance fees.

“This assessment rate discount will help them settle into their new homes,” said Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) president Ramli Mahmud.

To get the 20% discount, these residents must submit a written application with proof that they are eligible.

“As the discount will reduce their financial burden, we hope residents of apartments, condominiums and flats will pay their maintenance fees with the money saved.

“All residents should have a sense of belonging and shared responsibility for the building in which they live.

“They should not feel that the maintenance fee paid by them covers their individual unit only.

“In fact, they have a responsibility to look out for the car park, lifts and surrounding areas as they live within a community,” he said.
